Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic visitor to our school this week. We had a Viking day, where the children got to dress and even battle as real life Vikings. We were able to explore everyday life as a Viking; playing games, making corn and even dressing up as a traditional Viking warrior. The children made their own Viking wall and screamed their most terrifying battle cry, even some of the teachers nearly made a run for it.
The children have loved this topic and have produced some superb writing, as well as some fantastic Viking model houses, that they made as their termly homework project. We have learnt about how the Vikings have had a huge impact on life in Britain and how many city names have been influenced by the Viking rule. We have also explored some of more gruesome details of the Vikings and how they would not only defeat their enemies but were brutal in their killings regardless of age, gender of religion.
