Woodpeckers

Year 4

Odd Sock Day!

To mark the start of Anti-Bullying Week, Woodpeckers took part in Odd Sock Day! Celebrating individuality through expressing yourself however you like has been a valuable movement in raising awareness and prevent bullying. Woodpeckers loved comparing all their odd socks and drawing their own unique odd sock to go on our display board in the classroom!

Take a look at some of the odd socks being sported in Woodpecker class today...

P.S. A nose peg was worn during the photograph taking.

Eye Spy With my Dragon Eye...

Inspired by the English text 'The Boy Who Grew Dragons', Woodpecker Class developed their artistic talents while working on a dragon eye project. They began drawing a range of eyes in their sketchbooks, where they developed their drawing skills and knowledge of illustrating textures. They then moved progressed onto designing and creating a clay dragon eye.

The children became familiar with a variety of tools that aided in creating different textures in the clay to give the appearance of dragon scales. Every Woodpecker showed incredible resilience, patience and phenomenal work ethic in this lesson. What a great contribution to the day! The children absolutely loved doing this and cannot wait to paint them after half-term!

It's ELECTRIFYING!

Electricity has been the focus in Science this half-term. Introducing electricity in Year 4  unit is best learnt through a practical approach, and it has not disappointed! Woodpeckers were first challenged to make a bulb light up through building a complete circuit.Children then became familiar with the pictorial representations of circuit apparatus  and drew their own circuits. Needless to say... it was shockingly sensational! Take a look at the pictures below :)

Dragon eye art

In Art, Woodpeckers have been learning about how to use toning and different hatching techniques to accommodate drawing textures. Woodpeckers then applied these skills to draw a dragon eye. We approached this project with small steps to success and created some masterpieces! Everyone demonstrated sensational resilience and a 'can do' mindset. It was a lovely afternoon.

On Thursday, Woodpecker Class went back in time to the Ancient Egyptian era and took on the role of embalmers! After learning how a successful mummification was conducted, we put our knowledge to the test... by mummifying ORANGES!  As gruesome as it was, everyone got stuck in and loved it!
